What inspired you to write this book, and what message do you hope readers take away from it?
What inspired me to write this book, was love. I wanted readers to see love through a different perspective. These two were friends first and watched each other go through break-ups and heartaches while sharing their tea. They never told each other how they really felt about one another... they just hid behind the friend zone suffering in silence, waiting for the opportunity so that they wouldn't sound desperate. This storyline sounded like it could be some people in the world and I wanted to talk about it.
Can you tell us about your main character (or favorite character) and what makes them special to you?
The main character, Amir, comes from a family that believed in love. His parents made sure it was displayed throughout their household growing up as a Christian family. What makes Amir special is that he is the oldest sibling and he is responsible for setting the bar for his other 4 brothers. They all look up to him in every way. This is a close family who truly loves each other. The main character, along with his brothers provide a side to black men that we don't often touch on... and that's sensitivity and expression. They all have their own unique way of showing it.
What was the most rewarding—and the most challenging—part of writing this book?
The most rewarding was being able to pick up where I left off in the original standalone book, The King's Men. I wanted to make sure that this book carried all the vibes that the original book had while at the same time tell a story of Friends to Lovers. The most challenging part was making sure I had everything in this book that needed to be addressed from the original, King's Men book.
If readers could remember just one thing after finishing your book, what would you want it to be?
The one thing that I want readers to remember after finishing this book is... if you are looking for love and haven't found it yet... make sure you are paying attention to who is close to you. May it be a best friend, a co-worker, etc... because while you are spilling your tea to them, they may be the one you have been overlooking this whole time as a potential soulmate. Just make sure you leave no spot unturned.
What's next for you? Are you currently working on another book or exciting project that readers can look forward to?
What is next for Tosha Writes is a new book, of course. I am currently challenging myself to write a book I have very little to hardly any knowledge of. This is going to require me to do a lot of research. However, I am very excited to write something new in Fantasy Fiction. It will be a love story.
