Author Natalie R. Murphy
Natalie R. Murphy is a multi-award-winning independent author, self-publishing coach, and passionate believer in happily-ever-afters. While the "R" officially stands for her middle name, she jokingly says it stands for "Romance Junkie"—and she's sticking to that story! Her love for romance extends beyond her own writing, as she enjoys reading romance novels just as much as she loves creating them.
In addition to writing captivating romance fiction, Natalie is a contributing writer for Melanin and Marriage magazine. When she's not writing, she enjoys photography, collects dolphins and whales, and proudly considers mermaids her spirit animal.

What inspired you to write this book, and what message do you hope readers take away from it?
This is my second romance, and I wrote this one because I read a reader’s comment, “Where are the plus-sized main female characters?” And that struck a chord with me, being plus-sized myself.
This is my second romance, and I wrote this one because I read a reader’s comment, “Where are the plus-sized main female characters?” And that struck a chord with me, being plus-sized myself.
Can you tell us about your main character (or favorite character) and what makes them special to you?
Principal Lacey Alexander is the main character, and my favorite… I think. Lol! I love each of the characters for different reasons. But Lacey has a lot of me in her. She’s a plus-sized girl, a teacher, loves to journal, and whereas I don’t wear Converse, I love my various colored gym shoes.
What was the most rewarding—and the most challenging—part of writing this book?
The most rewarding part is knowing someone somewhere closed my book believing love is still possible, or at least had that warm fuzzy feeling for a little while.
The most challenging part of writing this story was writing the scene that breaks Lacey heart. A reader asked me once, “What do you feel when you write your stories?” I told her. “Everything you feel.” I firmly believe that if I don’t feel it, neither will my readers.
If readers could remember just one thing after finishing your book, what would you want it to be?
Love, either for themselves or someone else. I was that kid with rose colored glasses who wanted the whole world to love each other. I used to wish for a way to share love with everybody. Well, as an adult, I know that’s not possible, but I like to believe that my books are my own special way of injecting love into this crazy world we live in.
What's next for you? Are you currently working on another book or exciting project that readers can look forward to?
So, next for me? I’m excited to announce that I am currently writing my first romantasy. I’m combining love with fantasy. This romance takes place in a town named Ember Springs and the main female character is a dragon shifter. I’m really excited about this one! I’m hoping to release it in the Fall. I just started a Facebook page for it because I’m writing under a pen name, Nyla Drayke. I hope you’ll follow me/her.
