Tell us about yourself.

I’m a 40 year old, single mother of a 17 year old daughter. I’m from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. I’m a graduate of Benedict College with a Bachelor of Social Work, Webster University with a Masters of Human Resource Management & Strayer University with a Masters of Business Administration. I’m the youngest and only girl of three. 

Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.

I’m terrified of clowns, bugs and stupid people.

How many plot ideas do you have just waiting to be written? Can you tell us about one?

I don’t have any currently. My plot ideas come from dreams. Once I have the dream I start the writing process.

Do you find it more challenging to write the first book in a series or to write the subsequent novels?

I’m not a fan of writing series overall. When I do write them, it’s honestly not intended but that’s just how it flowed.

How important is the cover of your book to the title of your book?

Extremely important! I need the feeling of the title to be reflected in the cover. 

If you could meet the characters of your latest book, what would you say to them?

Is your cousin single?

What do you do to get the characters out of your head?

I let them talk by way of writing.

What are the essential characteristics of a hero you can root for?

An honest, loving and just person who either already knows themselves or is on the journey to knowing themselves. Family oriented with a slight edge even if a sweetheart.

If you had the power to cure a disease of your choosing, what would it be?

Cancer or Lupus

What would you like to say to your readers?

I want to say thank you for the love, support and most of all grace. Grace to grow into who I was supposed to be as Mel Dau when I wasn’t sure. Allowing my pen to grow and evolve with every project.
