A.J. Write
Author A .J Write was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. She now resides in Georgia with her husband and two daughters. She is 30 years old. She began reading urban fiction in the 7th grade and fell in love with the genre the moment she picked up her first book. She used to write poetry, so her love for writing began at an early age. She always wanted to write books but felt she wasn't ready. It wasn't until late 2015 that she gave writing a try. AJ always has ideas brewing and continues to write every day.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I read my first urban fiction book. I thought I wanted to be a poet up until that moment.
How do becoming friends with other writers help you become a better writer?
Being able to bounce ideas off each other and making sure something doesn’t sound crazy is very helpful. Being friends with other authors will help you see and/or understand things that you may have not got before. They help you see a different point of view of things. Especially if you collaborate with another author.
What does literary success look like to you?
To me, literary success is once you’ve become a household name. When you don’t have to fight so hard to get out to readers. When readers are always looking for your next book and will enjoy what you put out as long as it’s good and no matter how long it takes to put it out.
How do you select names for your character?
I will literally stare at the keyboard and whatever letter pops out at me, I will come up with different names.
What would you like to say to the readers?
My journey as an author hasn’t been easy. My writing has truly grown from when I first started. Thank you for giving me a chance and I hope you stick around for the long haul.
