Book Spotlight
This book is the first in a series of " Caregiving" it is for the Novice, family member, paraprofessional anyone who has found themselves in the position of caring for a loved one, client - or first-time healthcare worker in this field. The book contains true stories based on the author's personal and professional experiences with her dad during his dementia stages, learning the different agencies and their functioning, managing the healthcare system and learning the different terminology. The effects of Dementia on the Family, and how this disease robs you of the person you love, the difficulty of learning to let go of the person you use to know and embrace the person that you meet on a daily basis, all things are new. This book will help you understand the once simple task can become complicated to individuals with dementia, disabilities or with age. The Life cycle is amazing at any age but to witness the end stages will leave you humble, grateful and appreciative of Life in general. There are 7 stages of dementia and your loved one can be in multiple stages all in one day. My experience as a caregiver personal and professionally is the concept that we have of our loved ones and how it quickly changes as they go through the aging, process, my father was invincible to me and to see him in a vulnerable state was heart breaking. This allowed me to experience empathy, compassion and hold space for others in a capacity beyond what I could before.
