Voices Worth Reading: Amanda Lee

Meet Amanda Lee

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Amanda Lee, and I was born and raised in Forest, Mississippi. In September 2012, I decided to publish under my own publishing company, Vicious Ink Publications. I write thrillers, horror, women's fiction, and erotic. I served twelve years in law enforcement and now write as a full-time author and aspiring screenwriter.

Tell us about your featured book.
Heartless Bastard. I put my heart into this book. In the book, Aliyyah craved a perfect family, but when her child ended up in the hospital with stitches to the face and another almost choked to death; they would all soon learn that the perfect family comes at a costly price. Aliyyah was torn between loving her husband and protecting her kids. Jordan hated the kids including his own son, but not as much as they hated him. Jordan wanted a life alone with Aliyyah.

When did you start writing?
I started writing in high school but stopped. I started back up in 2009 when I published my first book Scandalous. The company unpublished that book, so I started back in 2011 with my book Deranged. Then keep writing from there.

In your opinion, what are the most important elements of good writing?
Goodwriting isn’t about fancy words; it’s about clarity, impact, and connection.

Describe your writing space.
Sitting on my bed with the tv playing low in the background with true crime tv playing. Or mainly, sitting at my desk with something dealing with a horror or thriller movie playing in the background.

What is the most challenging part of writing for you?
It’s sitting down and start writing sometimes. Some days, I write and write and write, other days, I’m not feeling it.

How do you handle literary criticism?
Pause before responding. And when I do respond, I apologize that my book wasn’t a good fit for them. And with literary criticism, I write dark, horror and thrillers so there is discomfort there, so I don’t expect everyone to like my work.

Who is your favorite author and why?
I would have to say T. Styles is my favorite author. Her writing style is unhinged. You never know what you get when it comes to her books. Raw and uncut.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
I enjoy watching horror or thriller movies. But mostly, I’m watching true crime tv.

What would you like to say to your readers?
Thank you for choosing my stories and stepping into the dark with me. I hope these pages kept you turning, unsettled you in the best way, and stayed with you long after the final chapter.

Featured Book:
Heartless Bastard

What would you do if the man you married hated your kids? Aliyyah craved a perfect family but when her child ended up in the hospital with stitches to the face and another almost choked to death; they would all soon learn that the perfect family comes at a costly price.

Aliyyah was torn between loving her husband and protecting her kids. Jordan hated the kids including his own son, but not as much as they hated him. Jordan wanted a life alone with Aliyyah. He stated, “Either your kids die alone or we all die together. I may be a HEARTLESS BASTARD but our vows states Til Death Do Us Part.”
