I wrote this book because I’ve seen what it looks like when people carry pain they never asked for, and I wanted to show how grace can rewrite even the darkest story. What I hope readers take away is that no past is beyond redemption. I want people to feel seen in their struggles, understood in their silence, and reminded that even the wounds they’ve learned to hide are not invisible to God. If anything, I hope this story shows that healing isn’t reserved for the perfect — it’s for the broken, the tired, the overlooked, and the ones who’ve convinced themselves they’re too far gone.
Can you tell us about your main character (or favorite character) and what makes them special to you?
Ayanna Carter is special to me because she represents the kind of strength that comes from surviving what should have broken you. She’s guarded, stubborn, and deeply wounded, but she keeps moving forward even when she doesn’t know how. What I love most about her is that beneath all her toughness, she’s really just a woman longing for truth, healing, and a chance to finally breathe. Her journey reminds me that grace meets us in our hardest places and that even the most closed‑off hearts can open again.
What was the most rewarding—and the most challenging—part of writing this book?
The most rewarding part of writing this book was watching Ayanna’s journey come to life on the page. Seeing her move from survival to surrender, from silence to truth, reminded me why stories of grace matter. It felt powerful to create a character who fights
battles many people never talk about and still finds her way toward healing.
The most challenging part was writing the painful moments honestly. I had to sit with her trauma, her anger, and her confusion, and make sure those experiences felt real without
overwhelming the reader. Balancing the darkness of her past with the hope of her future pushed me as a writer, but it also made the story stronger.
If readers could remember just one thing after finishing your book, what would you want it to be?
If readers remember just one thing after finishing my book, I want it to be that grace is still possible for them. No matter how heavy their past feels or how long they’ve carried pain in silence, God can still meet them in the middle of it and bring them into something new. If Ayanna’s journey shows anything, it’s that redemption is real, healing is possible, and their story isn’t over.
What's next for you? Are you currently working on another book or exciting project that readers can look forward to?
What’s next for me is honestly a season of stillness. I’m not working on any writing at the moment — I’m fasting, praying, and listening for God to show me my next move. This story took a lot out of me in the best way, and now I’m giving Him the space to speak before I step into whatever comes next. When He reveals it, I’ll be ready.
